About Us - Emma Weir and her team

UK Dance Network is the website of Emma Weir, Principal and Creative Director of Emma's Academy of Dance & Drama and all of the associated brands (Albany Dance Academy, Dance Train, Forever Wedding Dance and Disco Hen).

Emma Weir is a Fellow of the International Dance Teacher's Association (IDTA) and has a BA (Hons) in Professional Dance Development. She also holds other IDTA Associate qualifications, LOCN teaching qualifications in both dance and drama for children and a Diploma in Dance Exercise. As part of her degree, Emma also attained the Certificate in Work Based learning (accredited as a PTLLS for adult education) which, alongside her Fellowship, has led her to specialise in training new dance teachers, including those who work with her. She is now also studying part time for a PGCE (DTLLS) to expand her teaching experience further.

Emma has taught part time for 15 years and made it a full time business in 2005. The original school in Aldershot is now flourishing as the Albany Dance Academy, a mix of the Albany heritage that goes back to 1985 and the newer Academy classes that Emma set up in more recent years. Most of the teachers have danced their whole life and were put through their professional teaching examinations by Emma, who also helped some of them to set up their own classes in other areas.

In London, Emma has a wide ranging team of freelancers, many of which were or still are professional dancers with backgrounds as diverse as from Ballet to Burlesque and Street to Samba. Some of these trained with Emma and others had their training elsewhere but all are experienced, talented and often complemented by our clients for providing such high quality and enjoyable teaching. For details of just some of the fellow professionals that were trained and mentored by Emma, see Success Stories - Our Alumni

Emma's own teaching time is now mainly focused on adults and she has been a performing arts tutor at the Bishopsgate Institute in the City of London for over six years. She also trains many new teachers for the IDTA exams, both through her Dance Train courses and also through private tuition, and she has a 100% pass rate for professionals, with all candidates attaining 80% or more. She also enjoys delivering wedding dance choreography and providing instruction for parties. She is still involved with her original school, Albany Dance Academy in Aldershot, and mentors many of her former students in their own dance ventures. She also works with clients such as schools, local authorities, corporate companies and leisure attractions to set up new dance innovations and activities.
